We've all heard the old cliche 'A game of two halves' and that has never been more evident than it was at Adams Park yesterday. The Albion were of course up against Wycombe Wanderers for the fouth time in as many months. This was a must win game in what was a chilly afternoon in the Chiltern Hills. The game however did not succumb to the weather largely owing to London Wasps groundsharing agreement with Wycombe which has since led to under-soil heating being installed.
It was Wycombe who started off the brighter which was perhaps a blessing in disguise for those that were still at a standstill on the M25 as the game commenced. With fans pouring into the away end for what seemed like an age i gave myself a metarphorical pat on the back for opting for the train on this occasion. Still this decision would come back to haunt me as my early arrival meant I would witness goalkeeper Peter Brezavans horror show on the stroke of half-time.
I returned to my seat for the second half far from optimistic expecting another lacklustre performance and another three points dropped but i couldnt have got it more wrong. A great second half performance from the boys ultimately giving us a 5-2 win and a much needed 3 points in our fight for survival. The next target for Gus and the side is start emulating this level of performance over the course of 90 minutes. Master this and we will be a hard nut to crack.
Full credit also to those Aldershot fans who made the trip to Adams Park yesterday after their trip to Hereford was postponed. It was nice to see a bit of light hearted banter at the football without anyone taking exception. Furthermore 20 odd Aldershot fans out singing Wycombe should not be under-estimated either.
All in all 2009 has not been the greatest year following the Albion however two or three astute signings in January and we could become a very good League One side and then we can all look forward to a brighter 2010.
Until next time have a Great New Year!
Graham
